The festival in brief
21 – 31 July 2022 / Cave coopérative de Torreilles
First edition of a cultural and educational project on the theme of water, the sea and their environment, raising public awareness of eco-responsibility through art. Les Billes s’agitent, first edition, is a phygital, eco-responsible urban art festival that took place from 21 to 31 July 2022 in the former wine cooperative of Torreilles (66). This vast 3,000 m² building welcomed 25 artists from all backgrounds.
The venue was placed entirely at the artists’ disposal for a residency between 15 May and 10 July 2022, fostering emulation and cohesion around the works. A place of exchange and information on urban art and its currents, the cooperative, taken over by the artists, brought together works that were both physical and interactive. For this first edition, the artists worked on the theme of water, the sea and their environment, to raise public awareness of eco-responsibility through art. The route through the cooperative revealed their vision in different aesthetics, with one challenge: to create unity between installations, murals, calligraphy, abstract painting, collage, realism…
As a cultural and educational project, the public could make the works their own thanks to the variety and immersive nature of the content. Workshops, graffiti jams, exhibitions, music stages and exchanges with the artists enriched the visitor’s experience. Water, the sea & their environment: The choice of the theme of water and the sea (expressed through shades of blue) was linked to the venue’s location on the Mediterranean coast (waste, pollution, protection of the environment…) and echoed the commitments we had made to reduce the festival’s impact (waste management, reuse of materials…), all with the aim of raising public awareness of shared eco-responsibility.
